It was a sad and shocking day at Lagos based radio station Smooth FM 98.1 on Friday, May 31, 2013 when one of its prominent staff and OAP Derrick Kirk Anthony passed away.
Sources at the station say Anthony collapsed shortly after co-anchoring the Friday evening show ‘Kazbah’ with Damilola McGregor.
Colleagues confirmed he suffered a heart attack and died shortly after at the station, following failed attempts at reviving him.
Fellow OAP, Genie says he was present when Anthony gave up the ghost. In a series of short notes via his Twitter page, Genie describes how he lost his friend.
I tried to give him CPR. He had a massive heart attackKirky!!!! We are going to miss you real baaaaad! You were such a gentle soul full of life!!!! Why did you have to go now? RIP Kirk Anthony!’, he wrote.
E-mails sent to the radio station were not answered as at the time of filing in this report.
Kirk Anthony is one of the pioneer staff at Smooth FM and was the Business Development Manager before his death. Born to Jamaican parents, in 2009 he  left the UK and re-located to Lagos to pursue his love for radio.
Kirk Anthony was married to his beautiful wife Beverly with whom he had three children - Jessica, Aisha and Siira.
