Stars Above You singers Locnville have been named as the winners of the Best African Act at the 2013 MTV European Music Awards.
For the past six weeks, MTV has given fans around the world the chance to vote for their favourite hometown artists to help them win the Best Act title in their respective markets.
The duo will now go head-to-head against Yo Yo Honey Singh from India and Ahmed Soultan from the Middle East for the chance to be one of 10 finalists to reach the last round of the Worldwide Act category.
Locnville’s Brian Chaplin said it’s an honour to go through to the next round.
“Everyone has been amazing with voting, so I send huge thanks to everyone who’s put in their vote. I’m really excited to see what comes next.”
The representative for Africa, India and Middle East will be announced on 1 November along with the other regional winners.
Other contenders that had been in the running for the Best African Act award were Mafikozolo, P-Square, Wizkid and Fuse ODG.
Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Snoop Dogg, Afrojack, Imagine Dragons, The Killers and Katy Perry are all set to perform at the awards ceremony.
The 2013 MTV EMA will take place on 10 November in Amsterdam.

Kanye West proposed to his baby mum Kim K on her 33rd birthday last night October 21 at San Francisco's AT&T Park where the family was celebrating her day. Kanye, who had first asked Kris Jenner for permission to marry her daughter and gotten her approval, surprised the birthday girl by getting down on one knee in front of her family and friends and proposed with a flawless 15-carat diamond ring designed by jeweler, Lorraine Schwartz.

Over the past few days, rumors have circulated on the internet that BBA love birds Angelo Collins & Beverly Osu may have ended their relationship.

Just when they get on the road, someone comes to warn them about a song that has caused a frenzy in the town, then a bunch of crazy dancers get close to them and start dancing, LMFAO later join the dance.
The above description just about sums up Davido’s ‘Skelewu‘ video too; Davido waking up from a coma, hitting the streets to be warned by a young man bla bla bla…
What was director Mr Moe Musa thinking? That there was no MTV or YouTube in Nigeria back in 2011? Not only should he be berated for this unacceptable creative plagiarism, he should be visited by LMFAO’s label Interscope Records with a lawsuit.
There is no mention of Moe Musa borrowing the concept or paying homage to LMFAO. The official release from Davido’s publicist WildFlower PR states, ‘HKN Music presents Davido in a revolutionary movie showing the viral effect of the ‘Skelewu’. Revolutionary indeed!

Soul music star Millie Jackson is returning to Nigeria for a performance with Juju legend King Sunny Ade (KSA).
Jackson who first performed in Lagos over 50 years ago is scheduled to be at the launch of The Jadeite Group, an international organisation that specialises in creating platforms for the hosting of upscale entertainment events.
Organisers say the event will also mark the 50th anniversary of KSA’s music career and the musical heritage of Nigeria.
According to Edi Lawani, head of production of the concert ‘Millie Jackson is another musician who has made an impact on the global entertainment scene over time. She was known and celebrated as the queen of soul music between the 1960s and 1970s in America and here in Nigeria.’
The event tagged ‘KSA through the years’ is scheduled to hold at the Shell Hall Muson Centre Lagos on November 1.

For those who skipped Sunday School, Zadok was a Hebrew priest who descended from Eleazar the son of Aaron. He aided King David during the revolt of his son Absalom.

Rockstar’s latest installment in the GTA series, Grand Theft Auto V, is the Avengers of the gaming industry, becoming the fastest game to gross $1billion and smashing 6 other records.
The game took over $1 billion in revenue within three days of its launch on September 17, and has now overtaken the lifetime sales of Grand Theft Auto IV in the UK within three weeks of release.
Previous holders of the records were entries in the Call of Duty series, and movies The Avengers and Avatar.
“Gaming is no longer a niche hobby, as GTA 5 has proved, and how exciting that it’s taken on the might of Hollywood and won! I’m also doubly proud as a Dundonian to welcome this home-grown series back into the Guinness World Records book,” said Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday in a statement.
Last night the Guinness World Records claimed that Grand Theft Auto V sold 11.2 million copies in its first day on sale, but Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive would not verify the report.

In no particular order, this is Business Insider’s list of 30 of the smartest entertainment celebrities.
1. Natalie Portman:
The “Black Swan” lead has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard — making her the first alum to win an Academy Award — and took graduate courses at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She enrolled at Harvard as Natalie Herschlag, her birth name, for a bit of anonymity, but her professors noted that she was an exceptional student.
She speaks six languages and has twice been published in scientific journals. As she once told the New York Post, “I’d rather be smart than a movie star.”
2. Ashton Kutcher:
The former “Punk’d” host lost his scholarships to study Engineering at MIT & Purdue when he broke into his high school as a prank. He ended up at the University of Iowa, but dropped out at age 19 to pursue modeling. Kutcher now divides his time between acting and smart investing — in companies like Airbnb, Spotify, and Foursquare.
“The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart,” Kutcher said at this year’s Teen Choice Awards.
3. Conan O’Brien:
Conan O’Brien was a history and literature major at Harvard University, where the school newspaper dubbed him the “pre-eminent jokester” of the class of ’85. It makes sense, as he was also the president of the Harvard Lampoon, a semi-secret social organization that published a humor magazine. He graduated magna cum laude.
His 72-page senior thesis, entitled “The ‘Old Child’ in Faulkner and O’Connor,” argued that “the New South’s emerging identity is manifested in the literature of William Faulkner and Flannery O’Connor via the motif of children that age too quickly.”
4. Cindy Crawford:
Cindy Crawford, who graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class, signed her first modeling contract in 1984. Initially she used the money to supplement her scholarship to study Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University, but she ditched school to launch her career.
By ’85, she appeared in the pages of Vogue, and would go on to become one of the original Big Six supermodels.
5. Ben Stein:
Ben Stein, who played the droning economics teacher in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” is an accomplished economics professor and columnist for The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. The Yale Law School grad has authored more than 30 books.
According to his official bio, he worked as a poverty lawyer, trade regulation lawyer for the Federal Trade Commission, speechwriter for Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, and professor of law and economics at University of California–Santa Cruz and Pepperdine University.
6 & 7. Jake & Maggie Gyllenhaal:
When Maggie Gyllenhaal returned to her alma mater to accept a personal achievement award, she said her Columbia education taught her to “acknowledge that I really know nothing.” A thirst for knowledge led her, as a first-year English student, to sneak into the dean’s senior seminar.
Little brother Jake Gyllenhaal enrolled when Maggie was a senior, and hoped to major in Eastern religions. Following the success of “October Sky,” he dropped out after his sophomore year to concentrate on acting.
8. Mindy Kaling:
The Dartmouth College theater major earned an Eleanor Frost Playwriting Award in 1999. As a college student, Kaling illustrated a daily comic for the school paper called “Badly Drawn Girl,” which “riffed on day-to-day campus life and took a witty stab at everything from fraternity life to alumni.”
Known for her roles in “The Office” and “The Mindy Project,” Kaling was recently named to TIME’s 100 Most Influential List.
9. Quentin Tarantino:
Despite his intelligence, Tarantino never liked school, except for history class “because it was kind of like the movies,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
The famous film director, whose IQ of 160 is the same as physicist Stephen Hawking, dropped out of high school and went on to produce some of the most awarded and brilliant films of all time, including “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction.”
10. Matt Damon:
Damon may very well be as smart as his character Will Hunting. As a Harvard student, a playwriting course assignment led to the development of a rough version of “Good Will Hunting.” He later completed the project with his childhood buddy Ben Affleck.
Damon ultimately dropped out to pursue an acting career instead, but the Crimson school still awarded him the prestigious Harvard Arts Medal earlier this year.
Students of the University of Kaposvar have gone on an underwear protest after the head of the school had announce a new, strict dress code.
In a letter to students on Wednesday, the rector of University in southwest Hungary wrote that a conservative dress code – dark suits and shoes for men; jacket, blouse and trousers or long skirts for women – must be adhered to when attending classes or exams.
“From October 1, there is also no place in the university for mini-skirts, flip-flops, heavy make-up, inappropriate fashion accessories, or unkempt fingernails and hair,” the letter continued.
The rector did make an allowance for lighter clothing during warm summer days, prompting some students to make the underwear protest.
“We were appropriately dressed but the class room was so warm we removed some clothing as is permitted,” said one student.
Former governor of Plateau State and pioneer chairman of PDP, Solomon Lar died in the early hours of yesterday October 9th in a hospital in the US after protracted illness. He was 80 years old.
Soloman Lar was a member of the first national parliament when Nigeria gained independence in 1960. He was elected governor of Plateau State from October 1979 until 1983.

It is well known that Cassie and Diddy have been together for at least 4 years now and some time back, it was confirmed that they have been engaged for a while. Diddy has just confirmed recently that he is not ready to get married and tied down yet.
“It definitely would be a dream come true for me to just one day be ready for that. I’m not really looking because I know the responsibility that comes with that and I think that a lot of people, they jump into that and they’re not honest with themselves.” Diddy said during a recent interview on the “The View.”
“I’m brutally honest with myself. I don’t want to get married and not make that woman be the best. I’ve been close to it and when I’m ready I’ll make the announcement,” he added.
According to Diddy, he’s content with the way things are right now and happiness is more important to him than having the title of being someone’s husband.
“I think a lot of people put too much on marriage and not enough on happiness. I’m happy, anybody that is in my life is happy. I just want to be happy and I think it’s important for you to protect your happiness and to love yourself, because then you can love other people the right way,” Diddy said.
